What’s happening at Fife Architects?
Here is quick snapshot of our current workload and projects.
We currently have three jobs on site, the first is a conversion of a tenement flat in Glasgow. This project includes the complete redesign of both bathroom and kitchen. The new bathroom – a long narrow room – boasts a walk in shower with glass screen, a raised bath and Porcelanosa fittings. The kitchen has been reconfigured to connect with the main living space and features a generous L-shaped dining bar with aubergine coloured wall cupboards and sleek dark wood base units also from Porcelanosa.
Also, we are at phase 2 stage on a contemporary glass roof extension in Cellardyke. This follows on from the kitchen refurbishment in phase 1 (Image opposite). The new kitchen has a space enhancing glazed gable end flooding the room with light and providing views over the mature rear garden. The second phase of the build will also see the creation of a glass courtyard and bedroom with en-suite.
The third project currently on site sees the complete refurbishment, adaptation and attic conversion of a detached house in Markinch. This project involves adapting the living accommodation at ground level for full accessibility. The project also adds new living accommodation in the attic as well as a new fully glazed rear extension.
Several other planning applications have been approved including a small infill extension in Anstruther, Internal refurbishment and basement conversion for a B listed Georgian house in Kilrenny, and the restoration and extension of a traditional wash-house next to St Monans Church. The latter sees the C listed wash-house fully restored incorprating traditional materials and detailing like lime harling to the exterior and reclaimed clay pan tile roofs.
We are also currently awaiting approval for two new build terraced houses in Cardenden, and a contemporary sandstone porch near Crail all of which we will progress to the warrant stage.
In addition to the above, we also have a few commercial projects currently on the go – all at different stages of design. Current commercial projects include the design for a community gym for a local junior football club and a luxury bathroom showroom which we hope will soon be heading for planning. We are also moving on from a recently completed master plan for the redevelopment of a well known amusement park on the East coast of Scotland, and developing designs for a stylish new cafe, public toilets and administration office within the park – more details of that to come.
Finally, we are happy to mention that Fife Architects enjoyed an interesting and exciting evening at the RIAS awards at the Hilton in Glasgow, where their ‘House in the Woods’ project was shortlisted for an award. Unfortunately we came out empty-handed, but were very honoured to have been considered among such great projects this year.
