Our commitment to green living continues with recent planning permissions secured for two distinct yet complementary sustainable projects: a innovative new project featuring a garage with a rooftop greenhouse and a transformative sustainable renovation facing the sea in Anstruther.
The new garage replaces an aging structure with a contemporary double garage featuring a flat roof that not only offers extended garden space but also supports a new greenhouse above. In Anstruther, we're breathing new life into a 1960s building, converting it into a two-story family home with a focus on sustainable living, complete with a powerful 12kW solar PV system, an energy-efficient heating system, and amenities like a yoga studio and sauna that promote holistic wellbeing, all wile enhancing uninterrupted sea views of the across the Firth of Forth.
New Timber Garage & Green House
Responding directly to the site and the client's vision, the first approval is for on an unusual project that replaces a deteriorating timber garage with an innovative sunken double garage with a rooftop greenhouse. This solution unlocks the potential for a dual-purpose roof, effectively extending the garden with increased planting space and providing a stable base for a bespoke greenhouse for our client. Comprehensive drainage and ground retention strategies will also be implemented to protect the site and adjacent properties. We're looking forward to developing the detailed design for this thoughtful project.
By sinking the garage, we unlock the potential for a dual-purpose roof: more planting space and a bespoke greenhouse, all while ensuring seamless visual harmony with the garden.
Sustainable Renovation and Extension with Sea Views in Anstruther

Our second project focuses on a comprehensive and exciting coastal transformation in Anstruther. The proposal envisions the thoughtful renovation and extension of an existing 1960s house to create a highly energy-efficient, low-carbon, and sociable family home. Strategically extending to the rear and into the attic, the design prioritizes maximizing the site's stunning sea views and harnessing passive solar gain and low-carbon renewable materials โ key elements in reducing its environmental footprint. At its core, this renovation aims for exceptional insulation and an energy-efficient heating system powered by an air source heat pump, alongside a robust renewable energy strategy featuring solar PV panels that mirrors our all-electric ambition by entirely eliminating gas. To further promote healthy living, this home will embrace the coastal environment with a terrace and expansive bifold or sliding doors, seamlessly connecting indoor and outdoor living while framing the breathtaking sea views. A yoga studio and Finnish sauna further promote sustainable healthy living.
The design should support an ageing-in-place strategy, providing thoughtful features for long-term liveability.
