Initial designs for a whole house renovation and attic conversion at this East Neuk bungalow; Works will include new open plan living space at ground floor connected to a garden kitchen, and a generous main bedroom suite at attic level with views across the countryside....
It was a pleasure to visit the completed first stage of this whole house renovation project, where essential repairs have been carried out to this beautiful B-Listed Fife farmhouse. Now with a new slated roof, new windows and expert masonry repairs, the house is well on the way to a brand new lease of life. We look forward to the second stage, where works will begin inside;...
When Fife Architects began, almost 15 years ago, we had the challenge of starting a business from scratch and all that goes with that.
Business logos are difficult - with so many possibilities it is tricky to finally make a decision and hope it`s the right one.
Our logo is the gable of the home we were living in at the time, and features the `crow step` stone detail common to historic buildings around the East Neuk of Fife.
We chose the colour yellow as a logo and brand colour, inspired by the rapeseed fields that are splashed around the area at this time of year.
Years on, our logo still fits our business and yellow is a big feature in the office;
Our team deserved a well earned break and what a morning we have had, and what a day to be outside and enjoying this spectacular area. Of course we can`t help but revisit an old project and great to see the Mill Conversion by Svein Mjeldheim / Fife Architects ageing gracefully well 14 years after completion.
The morning was finished off with a delicious lunch at @baern_cafe where we forgot to take one single photograph because the food was so good and we were too busy enjoying it!!
Our team deserved a break so we did something different and wow what a morning we have had. The day began with a visit to our friends at @taranguitars , where we met luthier team Zachie, Rona, Caelin and owner Rory Dowling in their amazing workshop at Comielaw. Rory took us through their guitar design process (not unlike our own) where they work closely with each of their customers to deliver a completely one of a kind instrument. We were blown away by the level of craftmanship Taran apply to each of their guitars, thank you so much for having us!...
Fantastic to see the owners of this special home moved back in and enjoying the spectacular panoramic view of St Monans once again literally from their own doorstep! More photos to follow once the dust settles, however we are delighted for our clients and wish them every happiness in their new home. #architecture #fife #dreamy...
A visit to one of our completed house projects in St Monans, 8 months on. The wildflower mix green roof is thriving, even in this exposed, coastal location and having gone through a bitter winter. There was some of the green roof plant blanket leftover, so the owner let it grow on the ground in the garden (first image bottom left), it looks like it has really taken and hopefully will spread. #greenroof #fifecoastalpath #architecture #stmonans...
Some initial design images for the renovation of this wonderful Victorian villa;
The process behind these is a labour of love, starting with a full point cloud digital survey of the building in order to build a highly accurate 3D digital model of the existing villa, including intricate stone details, mouldings and cornices.
We work closely with our clients, to develop their project brief and review designs as we go. The initial design exercise is key to moving forward with the rest of the project, and ensures architect and client are on the same page.
All these services are carried out in-house by Fife Architects, from survey to architectural images, our small dedicated team go the extra mile to help create dream homes.

We are pleased to share that we have secured planning permission for the change of use and renovation of a former workshop in the heart of Pittenweem.
The project involves the conversion of the long-disused and deteriorating building into a sustainable family home. The design retains the original sandstone walls, which will be repaired using lime mortar to ensure structural integrity and moisture management. A dilapidated timber-clad side extension will be replaced on its existing footprint with a new insulated timber frame structure finished in charred larch and a brick base.
Additional interventions include the introduction of a modest front porch with a living green roof and a small rooftop terrace designed to provide outdoor amenity space with views of the surrounding area. To improve environmental performance, the building will undergo thermal upgrades using breathable hemp-based insulation and high-performance double-glazed timber windows finished in a muted red. The interior layout remains largely open-plan at the ground level to highlight historic features such as the original timber columns.
Great to get back to see this labour of love self-build home project, designed by Fife Architects.
The owners of this two bedroom cottage on the outskirts of St Andrews have spent the past 18 months carefully renovating and extending the existing building and should be so proud of their hard work!
Now it`s time for some finishing touches, then everything will be complete and all that`s left to be done is enjoy this beautiful, peaceful home.
Our latest project, Easter Kincaple, is a modern rural restoration that breathes new life into a traditional farm building. By balancing the soul of the original farmhouse with contemporary additions —like a new timber-clad extension, expansive glazing and open-plan living— the design creates a home that feels both grounded and light.
Sustainability and site sensitivity were at the heart of this transformation, ensuring the building sits perfectly within the Fife landscape.

Another recently completed home we are hoping to photograph.
Nestled in the Pittenweem conservation area, this project was all about respecting the historic fabric of the village while delivering a high-performance, very energy-efficient home.
Proof that you don’t have to sacrifice character for sustainability.
This garage project by Fife Architects is taking great shape. This carefully designed building will incorporate parking, a potting shed and bicycle storage. Treated pine cladding and a sedum roof, with rooflights, will make this not your average garage building. Retaining walls and new steps will connect the building to the garden at higher level. #architecture #rural #naturalmaterials...
Refreshed, recharged, and ready for 2026. We’re looking forward to getting back to the drawing board—developing new concepts, refining the details, and seeing our projects through to completion on site.
