Fife Architects have secured planning permission for an extensive house renovation and extension to a coastal property in Elie, Fife. The project will see an already converted farm building overlooking the Golf Course modernised using a costal and industrial design concept that aims to harmonise and re-interpret the history of the building within the context of the surrounding coastal architectural styles. The proposals extend the accommodation across three existing levels by making use of the attic spaces to rationalise bedroom accommodation and living spaces throughout. The alterations include refurbishment of the lounge and kitchen / dining area at ground level as well as improving the access to the lower ground level at the front of the property by introducing an accessible entrance with capabilities for adaptation to full accessible lifts in future should it be required.
The palette of material is derived by its surroundings and uses traditional materials found around coastal houses in Fife overlaid with materials traditionally found in agricultural buildings in the area. The extension will use a combination of clay pantiles and stained larch cladding sitting on top of a sandstone base.
The new Extension will have a new entrance lobby at lower ground level with storage beneath the existing balcony. The Extension will include an access hall and home office. Further above the accommodation will have 3 x bedrooms and a master bathroom all within existing attic space out-with the extension roof. A new master bedroom and ensuite will be complimented with a private balcony taking advantage of the sea views.
