This new build house was designed as a new energy-efficient family home sited in a vacant lot within the Colinsburgh Conservation Area.
The new simply designed house marries current styles of architecture with traditional building techniques and evokes a style that aims for continuity of the character of the Conservation while introducing an energy-efficient environmentally friendly modern house to the site.
The fenestration and detailing expresses a modern interpretation of the traditional Scottish rural aesthetic while preserving traditional architectural features and scale.
A double-height atrium and feature ‘Juliette’ balcony dormer are used to enhance the otherwise small footprint.
Material included natural sandstone base walls, and window banding, breathable render and clay pantiles to the roof.
The energy efficient new build house benefits from solar power and an air-source heat pump which paired with the high levels of insulation and air-tightness detailing which upon completion the project achieved an EPC rating of ‘A’ for both energy efficiency and carbon emissions.
