Fife Architects Featured in Scottish Field Magazine
We are thrilled to share that one of our recent whole house renovation and extension projects has been featured in the latest issue of Scottish Field Magazine! The project, located in the coastal town of Anstruther, is described as a “really joyous adventure” by the homeowners, David Dines and Suzanne Tyler.
The couple had purchased a 1960s bungalow primarily for its stunning sea views, and they worked closely with our team at Fife Architects to transform the dated home into a bright, modern, and energy-efficient sanctuary. As the article notes, our brief from David and Suzanne was “as light as possible, maximise the views, space for all our paintings and let’s try and do it as environmentally as possible.”
Through thoughtful design, we were able to achieve their goals, including extending the home to create a large open-plan living space, adding a spacious dining area and outdoor terrace, and converting the original garage into a kitchen, pantry, and utility space. We also incorporated Crittall-style windows, an air source heat pump, solar panels, and triple glazing to enhance the home’s sustainability.
As Suzanne so perfectly summarized, “We are so lucky to have had great architects, so lucky to have found a great builder and have great neighbours – all in all it was a really joyous adventure.” We are honored to have played a part in bringing their dream home to life and to see the project featured in such a prestigious publication.
This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team, as well as the fruitful collaboration we enjoyed with David, Suzanne, and the entire project team. Exciting times at this whole house renovation & extension by Fife Architects!
After battling the weather so far this year, the joiners have finally been able to fix the timber cladding and have made a beautiful job of it, with careful planning and well considered cuts to the wood.
The zinc roof will soon be installed, we can`t wait for the next site visit!

Fermín Beltrán Dos Santos - Founding Partner / Architect
Fermín grew up in Lima, Peru and studied architecture in Texas, USA. Working in New York, Lima and Glasgow, Scotland, he went on to found Fife Architects in the beautiful East Neuk of Fife with Lucy Beltrán in 2011.
Fermín is a passionate architect, now delivering personal projects in and around Fife.
His work has recently been published in Scottish Field, Homebuilding & Renovating and Build It magazines - we are very proud of him!

And the British Icons of Fashion exhibit? As mind-blowing as the architecture. Perfectly designed exhibits for each room. Definitely worth a visit!

Brilliant use of Siberian larch cladding on this beautiful house extension in Upper Largo, Fife - by Fife Architects. We also used SIPs within the structure due to it being a stronger, more sustainability and faster construct compared to other traditional build methods.

It is the season for sowing wild flowers, which reminds us of this green roof timber extension and house renovation in Elie. We designed the extension with an extensive green roof, planted with a mix of sedum and wildflowers to benefit the site by restricting surface water run-off, enhancing the site’s biodiversity and providing insulation via the planting medium’s thermal mass. We really love the wildflower garden providing a visually beautiful, low maintenance, wildlife friendly environment.

Meet Our Team - Adam Cunningham
Adam is an Architectural Technologist with over 7 years experience who joined Fife Architects in 2023. After completing an HND in Construction at Fife College, Glenrothes, he graduated with a BSc(Hons) in Architectural Technology from The Robert Gordon University in 2017.
Prior to joining our team, Adam spent 5 years at national practice Halliday Fraser Munro.
Adam assists Fermin and Lucy on technical work stages of projects, using his broad knowledge of the construction industry and practical expertise.
