This former council house lacked adequate space at the ground floor and was in need of a formal entrance.
The house’s layout lacked the adequate accessible accommodation at ground level to provide an adequate living for occupants of varying needs and/or disabilities making it unsuitable as a lifelong home.
The completed project modernised and upgraded the entire house by introducing a well mannered and ecofriendly ‘wrap-around’ extension to the property. The main aim was to provide a lifelong home for the residents while providing a sympathetic building aesthetic that used environmentally friendly materials and energy-efficient upgrades.
The new extension has an extensive green roof planted with a mix of sedum and wildflowers to benefit the site by restricting surface water run-off, enhancing the site’s biodiversity and providing insulation via the planting medium’s thermal mass.
