New Build Family Home, Elie

Fife Architects designed this new build family home in Elie for a private client in early 2015. The building is made up of simple cube forms, wrapped around an external courtyard, with public areas such as the kitchen/dining room and lounge directly linked to it. Large expanses of south-west glazing over look the long garden down to a group of mature trees at the end and will allow passive solar gain contributing to the heating of the building. A curved glass wall in the dining area provides views across the whole garden and attractively counterbalances the square shaped formal lounge adjacent to it. The external materials comprise of a simple palette of glass, timber cladding and light coloured render. All the roofs are flat enabling the use of living grass and sedum roofs and for any solar panels to be hidden from sight.

The house has four bedrooms including a master suite with dressing room and ensuite bathroom. On the ground floor are a kitchen diner, open plan galleried living space, a separate living room, guest bedroom with ensuite, steam room, boot room, utility, laundry room and garage for three cars.
